Scrammble Games are also called Headutainment Games (from the words: health, education and entertainment). Scrammble Word can be played as a group game with family and friends at home, with students and teachers in school or at a party or vacation with new acquaintances. Scrammble Bingo game is especially good for children to learn vocabulary and spelling  in a fun and effective way. They learn by building longer words out of shorter words and by scrambling the alphabets. The common Bingo rules are kept so it is extremely easy to pick up this game. Just read the simple illustrations and rules below, you will be on your way to play and teach others how to play.

What is the Scrammble Bingo Game?

The Scrammble Bingo is a word game based on the 'word scramble process' (used in all Scrammble Games). The 'Scramble Process' simply allows alphabets to be inserted in claimed words and allows a new word to be formed by 'scrammbling'. The bingo game rule is very simple: when alphabets are opened from a deck of Scrammble cards or a pile of tiles (136 alphabet cards or tiles including 4 wild cards or tiles), you can claim a word and/or scramble a word. For each word made or scrambled, you place a clear chip on your Scrammble Bingo Card in a space of either column or row containing the right vowels in the claimed word. When a predetermined Bingo Pattern (1 out of 45, Horizontal row (5), Vertical Column (5), Diagonal line (2), Right cross (1), Diagonal cross (1), Any two horizontal rows (10), Any two vertical columns (10), One narrow H, One Wide H, One Narrow I, One wide I, T, M, N, W, One small hollow square, One Large hollow square and One filled large square) is fulfilled, you claim Bingo! and win Prize! The vowels are grouped into six groups (a/u/y, i/o, a/i, e/y, a/o, e/u) or kept as single (a, e, i, o, u and y) and each bingo card has four of them plus a Bingo (*) (which can be any vowel) all placed randomly. (Alternatively, place the five vowels, a, e, i, o and u randomly along a diagonal line and place an additional wild, *, at any place the player chooses.) Therefore, there are many possible patterns of placing the vowels and bingo (*) on the Scammble Bingo card. The following shows two sample Scrammble Bingo Cards placed side by side. The placement of vowels can be done by the players according to their preference or they can simply select a predetermined patterns as provided.  The bottom lines are used for record keeping of the alphabets opened in sequence for each game and for words made by the player. Any player can re-scrammble the letter sequence to form a Bingo pattern on his or her Bingo card so long no one else had claimed Bingo!

You may use your own favorite Bingo Card by selecting any 5 of A/U/Y, I/O, A/I, E/Y, A/O, E/U and * and place them in a diagonal line

Record the alphabets that have been opened in sequence and words made for verification when Scrammble Bingo is claimed

The Scrammble Bingo can be played as a team game or as a large group game.
Large Group Scrammble Bingo: Players use different cards to play with a continuous alphabet sequence.
Small Group: Players may choose to play with the same Bingo card. Only the player who claims or scrambles
a right word can place a chip on his/her Bingo card.
Competitive Play: When a word is scrambled, the previous word maker must remove the chip placed for the previous word.

Playing Rules for Scrammble Bingo

The game is a Headutainment Game based on the principle of learning by teaching while having fun. Each player selects a Bingo card. One moderator or a fellow player or a teacher opens the alphabets in sequence. The players focus on make words out of the opened alphabets. With added alphabet or alphabets, the previously made word can be scrambled to make longer words. The entire set of alphabets in a previously made word has to be used for scrambling into a new word. For example, the letter sequence opened are EBLILAR, One player has created the following words BE, BELL, LIBEL, LIABEL, and LIBERAL which made a straight line 5-word Bingo along a line containing vowel E. Since the letters of a previous word are all used in the new word, then the letters can be reused. Whereas, another player made BE, ILL, BEAR would get stuck, he can not make BILL or BAIL or LABEL or LIABLE or BAILER even though he can make the word LIBERAL. (That is because BEAR and BILL would require two separate B's, BAIL and BEAR would require two separate B's and A's...) The challenge is for a player to be first completing a pre-determined Bingo pattern, say a 5-word horizontal line or a 9-word right cross pattern. The first player claims the Bingo wins.

Play Group:

As many people as there are Bingo Cards can play, especially suitable in a classroom or church hall.

All ages above 4 years old can play since this game is a vocabulary game. One may apply rules to give younger players an handicap advantage such as the minimum length of words acceptable being set as follows:

3-5 (1 letter word and up), 5-10 (2 letter word and up), 7-adult (3 letter word and up), 14-adult (4,5 or more letter word and up), experts (5, 6 or more letter word and up). It is best to set the minimum correctly to accommodate the younger players.

More Examples of Scrammble Bingo

1. The alphabet sequence opened are T C A R S O and E. One player had formulated the following words: COT, COAT, COAST, COSTAE and COASTER. Since the Bingo pattern is a straight line of five spaces, the five words he formulated along the line containing the vowel O fulfilled the Bingo. Of course there are other possibilities too. For example, AT, CAT, CART, COAST, and COASTER or AT, CAT, CAST, CARTS and COASTER can fulfill the Bingo pattern of five spaces along the line containing the vowel A.

2. The alphabet sequence opened are I E M H T S R C and Y. One player plays with a column containing the vowel E, hence he forms ME, ITEM, REMIT, MISTER, and CHEMISTRY. Another player plays with the column containing the vowel I, hence she forms HI, HIT, HIST, SHIRT, and CHRIST.

First To Win (Speed in completing the Bingo pattern is critical)

Since there are many possibilities of completing a Bingo pattern, the speed in completing the Bingo pattern (before others do) is critical to winning the game. In the event there is a tie, then the word points will be counted. The one with more word points will be the winner. (See counting or word points in Scrammble Word)

Win the Game and Having Fun

Winner is determined by who has claimed the most Bingo. If players prefer, the word points can be tallied for each Bingo game to determine the highest word score achieved by a Bingo. Since making longer words and placing vowels with bonus math operators strategically will score higher word points. keeping word score (and word points) adds more challenge to the Bingo game.

How to Count the Word Points:

It is simple, just add up all the individual alphabet points and then apply the bonus math operators to get additional bonus points. For example, the word, CARD [ C(4), A(1, 2L), R(2), D(3) ] has 4+1+2+3= 10 basic word points, With bonus math operator 2L (multiply the letter points on the left by 2) from A(2L), it has 4+1+2+3+4x2=18 word points. Another example, The word GA(Wild)E [ G(6), A(1, 3L), Wi(0, 2W) as M, E(1) ] has 6+1+0+1= 8 basic word points. With bonus from A(3L) and the wild card (2 times the word score), it has (6+1+0+1)+(6x3)+(6+1+0+1)x2=42 word points.

What Does Scrammble Mean?

Scrammble means one can form a new word out of letters opened (and not used yet) in the Scrammble Bingo game OR add more unused alphabets to an existing claimed word to make longer new words. (You must use all of the letters from the claimed word) Adding S, ES, D, ED, N or EN to change a word from singular to plural state or from present tense to past tense is not considered as forming a new word, therefore, not allowed.

Scrammble Bingo Game is an exciting brain stimulating game. The game holds all players' attention all the time. Bells may be used to determine who has declared the Bingo first in case shouting becomes unbearable when players get too excited.
